Registration Requirements for RCx Practitioners/ RCx Professional

Candidates can register as RCx Practitioners/ RCx Professionals through one of the following routes:-
Normal Route

To register as RCx Practitioners/ RCx Professionals via normal route, the candidates should fulfil the following requirements:-

RCx Practitioner (Level 1) RCx Practitioner (Level 2) RCx Professional
RCx Training and Examination
Candidates should complete the RCx Training for RCx Practitioner (Level 1) and pass the RCx Practitioner (Level 1) Examination. Candidates should complete the RCx Training for RCx Practitioner (Level 2) and pass the RCx Practitioner (Level 2) Examination. Candidates should complete the RCx Training for RCx Professional and pass the RCx Professional Examination.
Document(s) to be submitted:
1. Certificate for examination issued by the HKGBC.
Academic Qualification
Candidates should hold a Diploma/ Certificate or above in building services engineering/ mechanical engineering/ heating, ventilation & air-conditioning engineering/ electrical engineering/ energy engineering or equivalent.
Candidates should hold a Degree or above in building services engineering/ mechanical engineering/ heating, ventilation & air-conditioning engineering/ electrical engineering/ energy engineering or equivalent.
 Candidates should hold a Diploma/ Certificate or above in building services engineering/ mechanical engineering/ heating, ventilation & air-conditioning engineering/ electrical engineering/ energy engineering or equivalent.
Document(s) to be submitted:
1. Academic certificate. For equivalent academic qualification, both academic certificate and transcript should be submitted. The transcript should show the completion of engineering course(s) related to building services/ mechanical/ heating, ventilation & air-conditioning/ electrical/ energy.
Professional Qualification

Candidates should hold a full membership in one of the following professional institutions:-
  • AEE - Association of Energy Engineers
  • ASHRAE - The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers
  • BSOMES - Building Services Operation and Maintenance Executives Society
  • CIBSE - The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers
  • EI - Energy Institute
  • HKAEE - Hong Kong Association of Energy Engineers
  • HKIE - Hong Kong Institution of Engineers
  • IMechE - Institution of Mechanical Engineers
  • Engineering Council (CIBSE or IMechE)
  • Engineers Registration Board
    (Building Services/ Control, Automation & Instrumentation/ Electrical/ Electronics/ Energy/ Environmental/ Mechanical discipline)
Document(s) to be submitted:
1. Membership card/ certificate, which includes the information of “Name of Professional Institution”, “Membership Type”, and “Membership Number”.
Work Experience
Candidates should have at least 1 year of relevant work experience in operation and maintenance of building services facilities, etc. in contractors, suppliers, services providers, developers, facility management companies, etc.

Preferred area of practice:
Building commissioning, operation and maintenance of building services installation (exclude fire services)
Candidates should have at least 1 year of relevant work experience in commissioning/ building energy efficiency in consultants, energy services providers, facility management, developers, E&M contractors, equipment suppliers, etc.

Preferred area of practice:
Building commissioning, building operation and maintenance, building energy efficiency and management, or building services supply and installation (exclude fire services)
Candidates should have at least 3 years of relevant work experience in commissioning/ building energy efficiency in consultants, energy services providers, facility management, developers, E&M contractors, equipment suppliers, etc.

Preferred area of practice:
Building commissioning, building operation and maintenance, building energy efficiency and management, or building services supply and installation (exclude fire services)
Document(s) to be submitted:
1. Curriculum vitae (CV). The following information should be included in the CV:-
  • Candidate’s name
  • Employment period (MM/YY to MM/YY). Candidates should count only once for experience in overlapping periods.
  • Organisation name
  • Position
  • Brief description of job duties/ roles and responsibilities
2. Supporting document (i.e. reference letter, etc.), if any
Project Reference
Not applicable Not applicable Candidates should provide 2 project references. The project references should be related to building commissioning/ energy services/ RCx/ retrofitting, etc. with job duties related to system control, operation and automation, installation and commissioning, energy management, instrumentation and use of data, measurement and verification, etc.
Document(s) to be submitted:
1. Annex 1 - Job verification letter. Please click HERE to download the letter template. The letter should be signed by authorised person (e.g. supervisor, project owner representative, etc.).

2. Relevant documents. The relevant documents (e.g. reports, emails, drawings and specification, etc.) should show the project name, candidate's name and job duties.

To register as RCx Practitioners/ RCx Professionals via mature route, the candidates should fulfil the following requirements:-

RCx Practitioner (Level 1) RCx Practitioner (Level 2) RCx Professional
RCx Training and Examination
Candidates should complete the RCx Training for RCx Practitioner (Level 1) and pass the RCx Practitioner (Level 1) Examination. Candidates should complete the RCx Training for RCx Practitioner (Level 2) and pass the RCx Practitioner (Level 2) Examination. Candidates should complete the RCx Training for RCx Professional and pass the RCx Professional Examination.
Document(s) to be submitted:
1. Certificate for examination issued by the HKGBC.
Work Experience
Candidates should have at least 7 years of relevant work experience (include 5 years or above in facility operator position).

Preferred area of practice:
Building commissioning, operation and maintenance of building services installation (exclude fire services)
Candidates should have at least 10 years of relevant work experience (include 7 years or above in facility engineer position).

Preferred area of practice:
Building commissioning, building operation and maintenance, building energy efficiency and management, or building services supply and installation (exclude fire services)
Candidates should have at least 15 years of relevant work experience in facility engineer/ management position.

Preferred area of practice:
Building commissioning, building operation and maintenance, building energy efficiency and management, or building services supply and installation (exclude fire services)
